Yay! You're here.
Congratulations! You've already taken the steps to be a leader at your school, but... don't you want to be a better leader? Our over-arching, soul-searching, far-reaching question for this today's workshop is "What can I do?" I want you to ask yourself this question as we take a look at what you've done, where you are, and where you want to be.
I. Ice Breaker! Slack Jaw Stare Off
Grab a partner (one that you don't know well) and face each other from 6 feet apart, of course. You must stare into their eyes- without smiling or laughing- for as long as you can. Now the fun! When I count down to 0, you will slowly lower your jaws... slack jaw... and continue staring. Play a few rounds! Who's got the steel?
II. Now, let's evaluate your leadership style. Take the Leadership Style Inventory. Let's discuss what we see. Always... continually... evaluate yourself as a leader. Recognize how you can be better. (Inventories attached below.)

Realize the power of everyday leadership. Check out the TedTalk below with Drew Dudley.
Why do I want to be #2? Be sure you know why and carry this thought with you into our future :)
We consider ourselves #2 BECAUSE we make our student body #1!
Be leaders on our campus and in our community!
What's next?
II.Let's make a list of the events you consider to be standard-- events that Student Council at NMHS is traditionally expected to do. Do we want to keep these?
III. Now, lets think bigger. We have different types of events:
Spirit and Competition Activities, Gatherings/Dances, Service Projects;
Physical vs Virtual Events.
IV. Divide and conquer.
Split into groups to brainstorm events that you'd like to see .
Always keep our yearly focus in mind: Student Involvement
You and your group open a school calendar. Then walk through each month. For each month, list events that you think fit. Then categorize and rank those events.
V. Now, as a whole group, let's go through the months, hear the ideas, and vote.
After deciding on your activities, talk about how you will get these approved and on the calendar, how you will spread the word, how you will implement your ideas, and then later evaluate your performance!
V. Responsibility Talk!
How do we handle the problems that WILL come up?
“I walk down the street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I fall in.
I am lost... I am helpless.
It isn't my fault.
It takes forever to find a way out.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I pretend I don't see it.
I fall in again.
I can't believe I am in the same place.
But, it isn't my fault.
It still takes me a long time to get out.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I see it is there.
I still fall in. It's a habit.
My eyes are open.
I know where I am.
It is my fault. I get out immediately.
I walk down the same street.
There is a deep hole in the sidewalk.
I walk around it.
I walk down another street.”

When is your next Student Council meeting? When are our elections/appointments for class officers? When are elections for HC court? When are class officers scheduling meetings?
when, when, when....?
