Day 12---  1/2/2019 or 1/3/2019  Wednesday/Thursday
Welcome to 2019, 7th graders! You’re almost to the 7.5 level… just a few more weeks. Since I’m detained in the states, I’ve written you some notes so that you know what to do.

1. If you were absent in the days before break, please see our website for Day 11. You have some work to do… specifically, these assignments are to turn in:
Questions on Sonnet 130, Sonnet 138, and Mirror poems.
WORDS handout on #8 ironic-  complete the TASKS on the handout.
WRITING handout on theme topic sentences. Read examples, fill in the blanks.
Read through Day 11 on our website. Follow the instructions. Extra papers are on the side shelf, or you may print from our website.

2. Students who were here, please have all of your work turned in by the close of this week if you didn’t turn it in before break.  That’s a nice extension for all of you J

3. WORDS- When I return, I’ll check for #8, ironic, in your binder. (RUR it!) If you were missing a check for words 6 and 7, I’ll get you then.

4. BOOK TALK- Read your independent reading selection and get your talk scheduled now.  See the scale on the front board and by the door.

TODAY’S WORK- Any work not completed in class becomes homework.
1. Work the Grade 7, Collections Part I assessment. How?
Your sub teacher will lead you to read aloud each text.  Then you’ll work with your elbow partner and close group setting to answer the questions.  Remember that you are looking for the BEST answer.  If I wrote on your paper, use my hints or answer any questions I asked.
3 texts and 20 questions based on prior class discussions, notes, and knowledge.
This will be graded for correctness, so a serious discussion is warranted.
Work hard!  Turn into the bin on my  desk.
2. WRITING- Turn to the Writing section of your binder. Today’s topic:  Do people have the right to rescue services when they put themselves at risk? An example is people who climb mountains like Mt. Everest. If they get stranded, is it their right to demand rescue services? Write a ½ page to a page that fully discusses your thoughts. Think it through.
Cost of rescues?
Stupid decisions?

Day 13 – 1/4/2019 or 1/7/2019 Friday/Monday
TODAY’S TASKS:
1. Work the Grade 7, Collections Part II assessment. Follow the same procedure as you did for the previous class for #’s 21 – 44. Read, discuss, and work together.
Turn into the bin when you have completed the process.
2. WRITING- Get your handout titled Hyperboles, Symbols, and Irony, pg 60 from the Discovering Voice book. You’re playing with irony again.  Read, think, discuss, and answer 1, 2, and the Now you try it section.  Homework if you do not finish.
3. WRITING- Get your handout titled Syntax, pg 79.  Complete the whole page.
Homework if you do not finish. Turn all into the bin.

Extra time on either day?  Your substitute may choose to assign you this story in our Collections text. The book are on the shelf across from the windows.
Read aloud the memoir excerpt from Mississippi Solo by Eddy Harris on pp 137 – 140. Answer the questions on p 142, #s 1 – 6.

I’ll see you next week!

*Attached below is the Collections Parts I and II assessment, #s 1 - 44.
